Hundreds of gifts and non-perishable food items have been donated to Edmonton Salvation Army thanks to a present appeal supported by Edmonton Green Shopping Centre.
Toys of all shapes and sizes, beauty gift sets and chocolates are among some of the 200 plus gifts donated by generous members of the public, as well as several of the shopping centre’s contractors and on-site retailers.
Rebecca Bird, Retailer Manager at Edmonton Green, says the charity and shopping centre have been completely overwhelmed by people’s support.
She said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in helping to make The Salvation Army Present Appeal such a success. It’s been quite emotional experiencing such generosity especially during such a tough year.
“Thanks to the generosity of our kind-hearted customers, our amazing service partners and several of our incredible retailers more than 200 families facing hardships this Christmas will benefit.”
Over 200 families and individuals have already turned to Edmonton Salvation Army for support this Christmas, with many more expected to do so in the coming weeks.
The charity will now organise the presents and food hampers to be handed out and collected to those families.
Dawn Roden, Captain of Edmonton Salvation Army, said: “We are just overwhelmed at the amount of donations the shopping centre has been able to collect.
“This is the first time in five years any local business has reached out to help on such a large scale. We have seen a 50% increase in families in need due to the current situation and we were really worried about how we were going to help them all.
“We are just so grateful that Rebecca and the team at Edmonton Green reached out to us, this will really make such a difference to so many local families”
Crosstree Real Estate’s Partners, the owners of the shopping centre, donated £2000 towards the purchase of essential food items and gifts for the present appeal.
Sabri Marsaoui, Asset Director at Edmonton Green, said: “Community is always at the heart of everything that we do at Edmonton Green shopping centre. Being able to support such a wonderful local organisation helping so many of our direct community is why we wanted to reach out and help them to ease the burden of families within the area.”
